Te Araroa, Day 103

Feb. 15, 2024, Geraldine to Fairlie, hitching, zero day

We stay at the Holiday Park in Geraldine until 10:00 a.m., then walk out of town to hitch a ride to Fairlie. At some point, a car passes. Shortly afterward, it passes again from the other side, then turns again, driving towards us and offering us a ride.
The older couple days they changed their mind after passing us, to pick us up. They are headed to Lake Tekapo, but since we are booked into the Holiday Park in Fairlie, they drop us off there.
We arrive in Fairlie at noon. After getting some supplies at the supermarket, we sit on a bench in the Main Street and wait until 3 p.m. for check-in. Our drivers told us that Fairlie is known for the best pies in New Zealand. Pies are a big deal in this country. Not my cup of tea. The pie place is behind us and very busy. People line up for it down the road.

When we get to the cabin at the Holiday Park, I have a shower and fall asleep for an hour. Then I eat, write some stuff for this page, and sleep again. The body needs some rest.
