Feb. 28, 2024, Arrowtown to Queenstown, 24,14 km, km 2364, ca. 5,5 hrs
At 7:30, I start the walk towards Queenstown. It's a nice walk, and I enjoy it a lot. Since it's mostly flat and on hard surfaces, I try to find some shortcuts because my right foot will soon be painful.
The first view today while walking out of Arrowtown includes a hot air balloon in the morning sun.
I follow a road to Lake Hayes and walk along its shore until a town called Shotover is next to walk through.
Crossing an old bridge, I arrive at Frankton. The trail passes the Queenstown airport there and leads down to Lake Wakatipu, following the shore until Queenstown.
On the way to the Adventure Q2 Hostel in Queenstown, I pass an old and big Sequoia tree.
The hostel room we booked has a view of the lake and a collage on the wall with pictures from Germany. Queenstown is extremely busy with people, and I wonder where they all might stay. It's also very expensive, similar to Wanaka.
We will only stay for the night and tomorrow take a shuttle to the other side of the lake, where the trail continues.
