PCT, Day 30

Published on 6 June 2024 at 08:00

Tuesday, May 14, 2024, Messenger Flat Campground to Acton KOA, 21,84 km, total km 582,02, 6:46 hrs.

The wind died down early in the morning. I start at 6:45. The views are breathtaking. On the way, I take a break at a fire station and picnic area. A guy who works there brings me a Coke, for which I'm grateful.

The stunning views continue as I reach Acton KOA, a campground, after almost 7 hours and about 21 km. It's a serviced campground. I set up my tent, grab some soft drinks from the little shop, and have a refreshing shower. I rinse my hiking clothing in the shower and the water turns black with all the fine black sand from yesterday's wind.

Around 5, I get a ride to the grocery store with Kevin, a trail angel. He waits for me and brings me back to the campground. He tells me that many movies were made in this beautiful landscape, and companies like Audi and BMW use the stunning mountain background in their car commercials.

Kevin is a sound engineer and used to travel with many bands all over Europe. Work is hard to find right now, so he drives hikers around. He shares interesting information throughout the ride, making it very entertaining.

Back at the campground, I realize I have too much food. I bought for 8 days, and my food bag is very heavy and completely full, with some freeze-dried dinners still left to add.

I receive a message from Double Dinner, who plans to buy food for only 3 days and found a way to resupply after that. I need to plan better; I can't walk much with such a heavy bag.
