PCT, Day 53 - 57

Yesterday, my digestive system was worse - after the breakfast in the diner. The night was not good either. I tried to be reasonable and canceled my ride at 6 a.m., deciding not to go back to Kennedy Meadows now and eventually to the trail.

My new glasses should arrive in this town on June 10th, so I decided to stay until June 11th, hoping to get my digestive system into a better state, pick up my glasses, and then continue on the trail.

My diet is not very exciting. Early this morning, I emptied my backpack and walked to Walmart. I got bananas, plain dry toast, rice crackers, oats, yogurt, and nuts. That has been my diet since I got here, except for a pizza on the first day and the breakfast at the diner I had yesterday.

There is nothing to do in this town, and it is far too hot to be outside. So, I will get a lot of rest, eat my exciting food, and hope for the best.

I called the Walmart Vision Center on Saturday, June 8th, and was told that the glasses had just arrived. I walked through the heat and put on the glasses at the Walmart Vision Center. Everything was blurred. I stayed around Walmart for 3 hours to wait for the optometrist to re-check my eyes.

Seemingly, his measurements were correct. The problem was the glasses. There are glasses from different companies, and not every brand works for me. I had that problem before. Walmart uses Nikon. I never had Nikon glasses, but they don’t seem to work for me. They don’t offer a different brand.

I returned to my accommodation with those glasses, trying to figure out what to do. When I cleaned them, I felt that they were much thicker than what I had before. Even though their frame is much lighter than my former frame, the glasses weigh much more. I also discovered circular scratches on the left lens.

They still make the world uneven and blurry, but they are better than no glasses. They do not provide clear vision, but at least I can read with them. Using them, I can see now that my old glasses won’t hold up long; the frame is falling apart.

So I stick with them for now.
