PCT, Day 6

Published on 29 April 2024 at 20:00

Saturday, April 20, 2024, camp close to scissors crossing to scissors crossing and then hitch to Julian, 4,21 km, total km 121,94, 45 min.

I sleep well last night.
We only walk a few kilometers through the flat valley filled with cacti. Then we reach Scissors Crossing and immediately get a hitch to Julian.

The guy who picks us up is driving back and forth all day, basically picking up hikers because most of them need to get to Julian for resupply. The hikers pay for their lift on a donation basis.

It is a curvy road up to Julian, with 89 curves. We get there around 8. Our first stop is "Mom's," a pie shop. PCT hikers get a free slice of apple pie, a scoop of ice cream, and a drink upon showing their PCT permit.

We enjoy the meal and the restrooms. Between 10 and 11, other stores open, and we do our individual shopping. I get some resupply and a Tyvek ground sheet for the tent. My polycro sheet is old and starting to disintegrate. The sandy ground is too tough for it.

We find a food stall that sells huge cups of freshly cut fruit salad, and we indulge in that. At Julian Cider Mill, we get a free cup of apple/boysenberry cider and a small pack of sweets, free for PCT hikers.

In the afternoon, we check-in our 62 sqm room, and everyone gets busy having a shower, doing laundry in the sink, and sorting their belongings.

Early in the evening, the guys get burgers at the local brewery while I get a huge 16-inch pizza. I manage it all.
