PCT, Day 59

Published on 30 June 2024 at 08:00

Wednesday, June 12, 2024, KMS Campground to South Fork Kern River, km 19,19, total km 995,71, 7:45 hrs.

I leave at 6:20 a.m. By 9 a.m., it is already 30 degrees in the shade. I struggle today. I was off the trail for two weeks, and my feet are hurting again. I am very slow and take a lot of breaks. I reach my goal for today after 19.19 km at around 2 p.m. There is a big stream, and many hikers are there for a break.

I have lunch and then walk up a little hill where there are a few tent spaces. They are very small, and I have to be inventive to make the tent stay. I hope it won’t collapse tonight. Afterwards, I go into the shallow river to wash myself and rinse my clothes.

There is a bridge over the water. The underside of the bridge is covered with busy swallow nests. I sit here all afternoon watching the swallows feed their little ones. Hikers come and go, and all of them take a dip in the water. Since this stream is very shallow and the day is very hot, it has a nice temperature.
