Saturday, May 04, 2024, Fawnskin to piped spring, mile 295,9, km 22,46, total km 357,37, 6:50 hrs
I got up early, Kenny will give three of us a ride to the trailhead in Fawnskin. He's an excellent cook and prepares breakfast for everyone, making burritos for us three. It's my first time eating a burrito, and it tastes sensational, loaded with all kinds of stuff, including potatoes and cheese.
From our drop-off point, we walk an easy dirt road for a few kilometers before hitting the trail. I soon find myself alone and enjoy the leisurely walk, a rarity on this hike. However, there are three little river crossings, unavoidable for keeping my shoes and feet dry.
After the third river crossing, I search for a tent site for tonight and stop walking at 2:40. I'm not pushing myself, I don't care if I will make it to Canada before the weather does not allow it anymore. I just want to enjoy what I am doing. No stress.
I like to arrive early at camp, as it takes 2-2.5 hours to set everything up, leaving me time to relax in the tent.
The sky darkens, indicating rain, but I'm prepared with water close to my tent site, a rare luxury so far.
Later, I receive a picture from Double Dinner, who encountered a bear today. The bear ran towards him, but he scared it off by making himself look big with his trekking poles.
Starting the day with a road walk. It is very cold. I have to wear warm gloves. The guy on the right carries a few beer in his plastic bag. He finished 2 cans by the time we get to the trail.
The trail and along the trail:
And this is the bear that Double Dinner encountered:
