Wednesday, May 08, 3024, Choo-Choo tentsite to mile 361,7, 28,06 km, total km 461,19, 9:29 hours
The night was filled with train sounds and whistles, but I managed fine with my earplugs.
I start walking at 7 am. After 5.5 km, there's a water cache where people have left gallons of water for hikers, as there's no water available for the next 28 km. This water shortage is concerning, as I can't carry as much as I would like. I take 3 liters and drink about 1 liter on the spot. It needs to last me for drinking today, tomorrow, preparing dinner and breakfast, and brushing my teeth. I know I'll be thirsty.
Today's journey consists only of ascents, and it's very warm. After about 23 km, I feel tired, but I push on for another 5 km to the next possible tent site. My backpack seems to get heavier as the day goes on, despite eating and drinking, which should lessen the weight.
At the tent site, there are 2 Canadian women, and soon 2 very sweet American women join us (Ms. Frizzy and Bird Brain). For a while, we form a female group, and I enjoy the straightforward and direct conversation, devoid of small talk. It suits me well.
The two Americans mention they had heard about me when I give them my trail name. This isn't the first time I've been told this, which makes me curious. What exactly have they heard about me? I inquire further, and it turns out they had met Navigator and Double Dinner a few days ago, who had mentioned me. It seems I'm becoming famous, though I'm unsure for what exactly. We discuss social topics in the US and Canada, which proves to be very interesting. Later, two older guys arrive and set up their tents as well. As it gets colder, we all retreat into our tents.
Altitude: 2482m.
Today, I saw an unknown snake, bringing the total to 5 unknown snakes and 9 rattlesnakes so far.
