PCT, Day 34

Published on 10 June 2024 at 08:00

Saturday, May 18, 2024, Mile 495,4 to Hikertown, 30,93 km, total km 693,26, 9:22 hrs.

I start at 6. I did not sleep much last night. The clouds are below us this morning but are trying to move in. There is a long ascent today and then a descent into the desert valley. It is hot, and I have no energy, but I make it down to the valley after about 9.5 hours and 31 km.

There is a place called Hikertown, just a private place that lets hikers pitch their tents. A car is about to leave for a gas station. I drop my bag and take the ride to get some soft drinks and fries at the gas station. Double Dinner arrived at Hikertown an hour before me and takes the ride too.

Getting back turns out to be a problem. Hitching doesn't work, and the ride back, someone from the gas station, takes his time. It is already six, and we are waiting, very tired. We still have to set up tents, etc., and I will have to get up at 3:30 to be ready to walk at 5. We have to cross the desert valley tomorrow, and it will be very hot and exposed, hence the earlier start. Others will walk during the night.

I do all my chores and try to sleep for a few hours.
