PCT, Day 35

Published on 11 June 2024 at 08:00

Sunday, May 19, 2024, Hikertown to Mile 541,6, 38,55 km, total km 731,81,  12:10 hrs.

I have been awake since 2:30. I start at 4:50. It is still dark, but the sunrise is beginning. I walk along an aqueduct first, then through the Antelope Valley. It is exposed and hot, but there is a wind, so it does not feel that hot. I listen to an audiobook. I reach a bridge that gives shade and the first water source after 28 km. It is around midday. I have lunch. DD tells me he wants to walk to the next water source, which is another 10 km and almost 700 m up.

Since it is extremely windy now and has been for the last 4 km, I get going too. Those next 3.5 hours are hard. It goes not only uphill but through a windfarm. The wind is very strong, mostly coming from the front, sometimes from the side.
I am so glad when I finally reach the stream and find a tent site. It is 5 pm. By the time I get everything done, it is 7:30. I am so tired. Tomorrow I will not start at a predefined time.

I am a bit worried. For the past few days, I have had to go into the woods and dig a hole about three times per day. Since yesterday, I have also had some pain in the digestive tract and a headache. The pain has been there all day today. There must be some bacteria that should not be there. It is uncomfortable. There are two days until I get to town. If it does not get better, I need to see a doctor.

I saw two rattlesnakes. The second one rattled her warning from inside a bush.
