PCT, Day 37

Published on 13 June 2024 at 08:00

Tuesday, May 21, 2024, Mile 558, oak creek to Mile 566,5 and ride to Tehachapi, hikers hut, 13,5 km, 772,02 km, 3:15 hrs.

I slept at around 7:30 last night. I woke up a few times, as usual, but slept until 4:30. I leave camp at 6. Today, it is about 13 km through that huge wind farm, followed by a ride to Tehachapi for resupply and a lot of other to-dos.

I very much dislike these wind farm hikes. I put in my noise-canceling headphones, but I can’t do anything to avoid the wind.

At 9:15, I reach the road to Tehachapi, and there is a trail angel who has just brought hikers here. DD and I take the ride back to town. We get dropped off at the laundromat. We change into our rain gear and start the laundry. Next door is a diner where we have a delicious breakfast.

Once the laundry is out of the dryer and we are dressed in our hiking clothes again, I text Abel, the trail angel, to give us a ride to the post office and then to Barbara, another trail angel, where we can set up our tents and have a shower. I get new shoes and insoles that I had sent to the post office, as well as a new Nylofume pack liner.

Later, I call a video doctor because of my bowel issues that I have had for about a week. I am pretty sure I have some bacteria causing the trouble. She does not want to send a prescription right away and asks me to drink more and only eat bland food like toast. I will do that, although being in town usually means that I eat a lot of high-calorie food. She asks me to let her know how it goes before she prescribes something.

Her number has not arrived yet, so I can't text her. I’ll see…

The plan for tomorrow is to resupply for 220 km, clean my backpack, and do some planning for the Sierras, which are coming up after those next 220 km.
