Monday, May 20, 2024, Mile 541,6 to Mile 558, oak creek, 26,71 km, total km 758,52, 9 hrs.
It was extremely windy last night. The tent shook, and at one point, a stake got loose, causing the foot end tent wall to collapse onto my face. I had to secure the stakes with a lot of rocks. Some people abandoned their tents during the night and cowboy camped. The tent pole of one guy’s Nemo tent broke because of the wind.
I leave at 6:40. There is a very long ascent, and it is very windy all day. I am not feeling well. For the past few days, I have had headaches, bowel pains, and discomfort. I need to see a doctor as soon as I get to town. I carry 4 liters of water since the next water source is 40 km away. At mile 549, in the middle of nowhere someone put some chairs and provided water. A much appreciated gesture!
During the long descent, I walk through another big wind farm. It is extremely windy and noisy. At one point, the path has been washed away, and later I hear that today, at that place, a guy got bitten by a rattlesnake. He took a step backward and accidentally stepped on it. He had reception and could call for emergency services.
After about 27 km, we stop. There is some water provided by a trail angel. DD and I set up our tents. We are surrounded by those wind turbines. I will be glad to get out of here sometime tomorrow.
