PCT, Day 43

Published on 19 June 2024 at 08:00

Monday, May 27, 2024, Mile 628,7 to walkers pass campsite, 39 km, total km 909,24, 11 hrs.

Last night, an animal took the three dirty baby wipes I had put in the vestibule. I guess they are now underground in its little cave. Recycled.

There was a beautiful sunrise this morning and lots of condensation. I had to pack the tent wet. When I took all my stuff out of the tent, it got wet within 20 minutes. Later, at the water cache, we dry our stuff. There is also a box with power banks that we can use to charge our phones while we are there.

After the cache, there is a long climb. It is dry and hot as usual. As soon as I get to the other side of the mountains, there are trees. This landscape is changing all the time. The day is long but beautiful. We walk 39 km to Walker Pass Campground.

I am very tired when I get there. A young trail angel offers some food, beer, and soda but mainly offers to everyone free drugs. All kinds of drugs. He himself is very high.

There is also a retired German ophthalmologist who has been traveling for 6 years in South and North America in his imported mobile home. Now he wants to get a sailing boat to sail around the world. He offers me his van to buy.

It was a long day, and I get to sleep late.
